GIONO MSS.
The Giono mss., 1935-1970, consist primarily of the letters of French novelist Jean Giono, 1895-1970, to Mme. Helene Laguerre. The letters are largely personal in nature but often discuss in some detail Giono's pacifist/anti-facist views as well as his feelings about writing.
A few letters to Giono from various people, which he sent along to Mme. Laguerre, are also present. A partial typescript (48 p.), headed "Journal," consisting of excerpts from Giono's letters, Feb. 1935-1937, that discuss his writings, the autograph manuscript of Giono's Angelique, and a one-page draft of a passage from Batailles dans la montagne (Paris, Gallimard, 1937. Lilly PQ2613 .I57 B34), complete the collection.
