Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Helm-Malipiero mss., ca. 1939-1982, consist primarily of correspondence of Everett Burton Helm, 1913-1999, author, composer, with and about composer, musicologist Gian Francesco Malipiero, 1882-1973, and letters from Malipiero to translator, stage director, Max Heinrich Fischer. Most of the correspondence, particularly Malipiero's, is in German, while Helm's exchanges with other correspondents are in German or Italian.

Also present are Everett Helm's articles and writings about Malipiero and his music, including an interview with Malipiero; the manuscript of Malipiero's "Il commitato per orchestra e una voce", dated 23 July 1934 (A.D., 9l); photographs of Malipiero; and magazine and newspaper clippings about him collected by Helm.
