Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Hemingway mss. II, 1927-1956, consist of thirty-nine photographs of Ernest Hemingway, 1899-1961, and four photographs of people or places associated with the writer. Some of the individuals included in the pictures are Ingrid Bergman, Gary Cooper, Martha Gellhorn, Henry Hathaway, Mary (Welsh) Hemingway, and Spencer Tracy.

All of the items were taken as news photos. Each has a date stamp on the verso indicating publication day, and most are from the newspaper files of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
