Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Hill, H. mss., 1930-1984, consist of the correspondence of British bookseller George Heywood Hill, 1906-1986, and his wife Lady Anne Hill, 1911- . Lady Anne is the sister of Robert Gathorne-Hardy, 1902-1973, author, whose papers are also in the Lilly Library.

Among the correspondents in the collection are Harold Acton, Sir Lennox Randall Berkeley, Sir John Betjamin, Sir Benjamin Britten, Ivy Compton-Burnett, Lady Anne Hill, George Heywood Hill, Lincoln Kirsten, Rosamund Lehmann, James Lees-Milne, Nancy Mitford, Henry Moore, John Northcote Nash, Sir Harold George Nicolson, Marchesa Iris (Cutting) Origo, Sir Osbert Sitwell, and Sacheverell Sitwell.
