The Langer mss., 1940-1976, consist of the professional papers and reprints of Lawrence Marvin Langer, 1913- , Professor Emeritus of Physics at Indiana University.
Langer was born in New York City and took his degrees at New York University. He joined the Indiana University physics faculty in 1938, and served as chairman of the Physics Department from 1966-1973. He worked at Los Alamos on the Atomic Bomb Project, 1943-1945, and as a consultant to the Atomic Energy Commission from 1948-1961. He retired in 1979 and continues to reside in Bloomington, Indiana.
A few papers of former Physics Department Chairman Allan C. G. Mitchell, 1902-1963, are also present in the collection, as well as a set of glass slides of Hiroshima taken after the dropping of the atomic bomb.
