LATIN AMERICAN MSS.--CUBA
The Latin American mss. Cuba, 1607-1869, are composed principally of manuscripts in two legajos concerning the Zaldivar family. The first, by far the larger of the two, is Legajo de Documentos que acreditan los servicios prestados al Rey y a la patria, por el Sr. Dn. Jose de Zaldivar y Murguia... Covering the years 1792-1815, it contains correspondence, receipts, and records of Zaldivar y Murguia's contributions to society, the government, the army, and the King. The other legajo, containing only three items, was compiled by Zaldivar y Murguia's son after his death.
The 1756 Llave del Nuevo Mundo Antemural de las Yndias occidentales. La Havana Descripta noticias de su Fundacion aumento, y estado by Jose Martin Felix de Arrate y Acosta is in this collection. This was published in Sociedad economica des amigos del pais, (Habana, 1830-1831), t. 1, p. [1]-347.
Most of the other papers in the collection are notarial documents, some correspondence, and two royal cedulas.
Correspondents in the collection are Miguel Luis Amunategui; Rafael Angel Cowley; Felipe de Fonsdeviela y Ondeano, marques de la Torre; and Claudio Martinez de Pinillos, conde de Villanueva.
