MCCOY MSS.
The McCoy mss., 1909-1956 (principally 1949-1956), consist largely of correspondence of Samuel Duff McCoy, 1882-1964, journalist and author, with David Laurence Chambers, president of Bobbs-Merrill Company, publishers of Indianapolis, Indiana. The letters relate to authors, book reviewers, college professors, friends, literary agents, critics, politicians, manuscripts for books, and Indiana politics.
Also included in the collection are some poems by McCoy, 1909-1910; the manuscript of a paper by Chambers entitled "The first hundred years," which relates to James Whitcomb Riley and which was published in the Indianapolis News in six installments, October 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1949, for the Riley centennial; and 1950 correspondence between Edmund Henry Eitel, nephew of and secretary to James Whitcomb Riley, 1913- 1916, McCoy and Chambers relating to a book of reminiscences or a life of Riley, which Eitel was trying to write and the possibility of McCoy collaborating with him on it.
