NOMA AWARD MSS.
The Noma Award mss., 1979-1992, consist of papers and documents relating to the annual Noma Award for Publishing in Africa. The award was founded in 1979 by Shoichi Noma, president of the Japanese publishing giant Kodansha Limited, to encourage and promote the publication of works by African writers and scholars within the continent of Africa. The endowment established by Mr. Noma is registered with the UK Charities Commission and the award is administered by the quarterly journal The African Book Publishing Record in Oxford, England. The collection includes completed publisher entry forms for all nominations, readers evaluations of each submission, and reviews and publicity about the yearly winners. Also present are minutes of each jury meeting, along with a 'Who's Who of Assessors' for most years.
The collection will grow each year as long as the award is given.
