The Phifer mss., 1978-1982, consist of the letters of Virginia (Scott) Miner, 1901-1982, poet and teacher, to Kenneth Wood Phifer, Unitarian-Universalist minister at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Phifer had been a student at Pembroke Country Day School at Kansas City when Miner taught there. The letters were written from her retirement and family home at Warsaw, Indiana. Two of the letters are from Wilma Elizabeth Scott reporting the final illness and death of her sister.
Topics discussed include Miner's literary interests, books, and friends. Her thoughts on religious matters, especially Unitarian-Universalist practices and how she came to accept this point of view, pervade the letters.
