The Roberts mss., 1885-1918, consist of correspondence and papers of and relating to the family of Andrew Jackson Roberts, 1827-1891, farmer. Materials include biographical portraits of Roberts, of Ira Thompson Trusler, 1866-1906, of Virgil Roberts Nutt, 1887-1907, and of Lin Roberts Smith, 1882-1935, all prepared by Margaret Trusler Fisher, granddaughter of A.J. Roberts; a travel diary of an overland trip from Indianapolis to the west coast in 1888; the last will and testament of A.J. Roberts, photographs of various family members, and some printed memorabilia and newspaper clippings.
Roberts was born in Kentucky in February 1827, the son of Billingsley and Nancy Jewell Roberts; the family moved to Indiana in March 1828, settling on a farm between Brookville and Connersville. In 1849 Roberts married Hester Ann Alley, 1829-1913, the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Stevens) Alley; they had ten children, two of whom died in early childhood. Roberts died December 27, 1891.
