The Root mss., 1815-1888, are papers of Riley Root, 1795- 1870, teacher, surveyor, inventor, and author of Journal of Travels from St. Josephs to Oregon with Observations of that Country, together with Some Description of California, its Agricultural Interests, and a Full Description of its Gold Mines.
