The Waugh mss., 1934-1937, consist primarily of notes, drawings and sketches by comic artist Coulton Waugh, 1896-1973, detailing Waugh's taking over the comic strip "Dickie Dare" from artist Milton Caniff, 1907-1988. "Dickie Dare" was Caniff's first comic strip, begun in 1933, but within a year he moved to the Chicago Tribune - New York News Syndicate and created the action strip "Terry and the Pirates." A few sheets at the beginning of the collection are drawings by Caniff, made to assist the artist who would take over "Dickie Dare."
