Lilly Library Manuscript Collections


The Winter mss., 1864-1906, consist of letters written to drama critic William Winter, 1836-1917, largely from theatrical or theatre related people. These particular letters had been assembled for the purpose of extra- illustrating two books by Winter: Old Friends; Being Literary Recollections of Other Days (New York, Moffat, Yard and Company, 1914) and The Poems of William Winter (New York, Moffat, Yard and Company, 1909, no. 2 of special limited edition).

Two untitled poems in Winter's hand, a dedication page for Old Friends..., and the volume of Old Friends from which several of the items were removed, accompany the collection.
