The Yeats mss., 1889-1954, consist of letters and writings of William Butler Yeats, 1865-1939, and materials about him, collected by Allan Wade, 1881-1955, compiler of A Bibliography of the Writings of W. B. Yeats...(London, 1951), and editor of The Letters of W. B. Yeats...(New York, 1955).
Included are letters from Yeats to Wade, 1902-1922; typescripts of letters from Yeats to various persons, 1889- 1939; photostats of Yeats letters, 1909, 1920, and undated, and of newspaper articles by and about Yeats; letters April 3-July 7, 1952, to Allan Wade from Gerald Yorke with enclosures relating to the Hermetic order of the golden dawn in the outer; a letter from Mrs. Dorothy (Paget) Rhodes to Wade, November 3, 1954; two letters May 27, 1908, from Thomas William Hazen Rolleston to Allan Wade; a letter, June 10, 1908, from Mrs. Katharine (Tynan) Hinkson to [Allan Wade]; a letter of Ursula Bridge to [Allan Wade], August 13, 1953; bookplates of William Butler Yeats and Lily Yeats; and a square of cloth printed with various portraits and quotations from W. B. Yeats and A. Gregory "Sold by the Irish Players at $1.00 towards a building to save Sir Hugh Lane's great gift of pictures for Ireland, Apr. 1913."
The typescripts and photostats of letters written by Yeats include letters to Sir George Reginald Barnes, Mrs. Stella (Campbell) Beech, Harry Bergholz, Frederick Edwin Smith, 1st earl of Birkenhead, Arthur Henry Bullen, Victor Clinton Clinton-Baddeley, Sir Sydney Carlyle Cockerell, Arnold Dolmetsch, Katherine Harris Bradley, Edith Emma Cooper, Edward Garnett, Sir Edmund William Gosse, Lady Gregory, Sir Herbert John Clifford Grierson, Agnes Hall, Mrs. Katharine (Tynan) Hinkson, William Thomas Horton, E. M. Lister, Eric Robert Dalrymple Maclagan, John O'Leary, Herbert Edward Palmer, William Lyon Phelps, Ernest Rhys, Sir William Rothenstein, George William Russell, William Sharp, Leonard Alfred George Strong, and Lily Yeats.
