This list gives the collection name, date range and number of items in a collection followed by a very brief description of the contents of the collection. All of these collections are related to French literature.
ADAM MSS.- DATE RANGE: 1863-1923
- ITEM COUNT: 148 items
- The Adam mss. consist of the papers and letters of literary revue editor and political hostess Juliette (Lamber) Adam, 1836-1936. Mrs. Adam founded La Nouvelle Revue in 1879 and served as its first editor. The majority of the collection dates from the 1880s and the years of her editorship of the revue.

- The Alstromer mss. are a series of newsletters in French addressed in a number of instances to Baron Alstromer of Gothembourg, Sweden. The originator of the newsletters is considered to have been Francois Metra, at one time a correspondent of the King of Prussia. The newsletters have been characterized as gossipy accounts from the courts of Europe.

- The Dumas mss. consist of letters and telegrams, all in French, from Alexandre Dumas, 1824-1895, novelist and playwright, to the Princess Elise Soutzo, 1857?-1937. The correspondence reveals the romance which existed between the young princess and the mature and worldly Dumas. Included are also two photographs of Dumas and a scrapbook.

- The Giono mss. consist primarily of the letters of novelist Jean Giono to Mme. Helene Laguerre. The letters are largely personal in nature but often discuss in some detail Giono's pacifist/anti- fascist views as well as his feelings about writing.

- The Gourmont mss. are the letters and writings of critic Remy de Gourmont, 1858-1915. Written for the most part to Pierre Dauze (aka Paul Louis Dreyfus-Bing, 1823-1913, bibliophile), the letters discuss bibliographic interest in literary magazines, prices, and printings. All the writings are tipped in Gourmont, Les Petites Revues; essai de bibliographie.

- The Indy mss. are the letters of Paul Marie Theodore Vincent d'Indy, 1851-1931, composer, theorist, and author. The letters discuss concerts, articles, travels, auditions and some of Indy's works.
MERRILL MSS.
- DATE RANGE: 1886-1916
- ITEM COUNT: 162 items
- The Merrill mss. consist primarily of letters from poet Stuart Fitzrandolph Merrill, 1863-1915, to his mother, Mrs. George Merrill (Emma Fitzrandolph (Laing) Merrill, addressed in these letters as "Dear Cornelia"). Merrill is considered a member of the French Symbolist movement. Most of the letters were written during the years 1914-1915, when Merrill lived in Versailles, and relate both the literary scene in France and the war situation.
