This list gives the collection name, date range and number of items in a collection followed by a very brief description of the contents of the collection. All of these collections are related to music.
BUSCH MSS.- DATE RANGE: 1895-1952
- ITEM COUNT: 212 items
- The Busch mss. are the manuscript scores and papers of German conductor and composer Fritz Busch.
- DATE RANGE: 1901-1920
- ITEM COUNT: 6 items
- The Busoni mss. are the letters of Italian pianist and composer Ferruccio Benvenuto Busoni.
- DATE RANGE: 1921-1955
- ITEM COUNT: 56 items
- The Carmichael mss. consist of letters and papers of Hoagland Howard (Hoagy) Carmichael, composer, radio artist, recording artist, and writer for Broadway shows and motion pictures. Included is correspondence, newspapers clippings, programs for Carmichael performances and manuscripts for some of Carmichael's musical compositions. [The major Carmichael archive is held by the Archives of Traditional Music at Morrison Hall here on the Indiana University-Bloomington campus.]

- The Ege mss. consist of original leaves from medieval manuscripts of Western Europe collected by Otto F. Ege. Each leaf is mounted and accompanied by a description. Of particular interest are numbers 8: an early 13th century Gradual; 27: an early 15th century Antiphonarium; and 32: a middle 15th century Gradual.

- ITEM COUNT: 60 items
- The Friday Musicale Mss. consist of calendars, programs, and achievement books of the Bloomington, Indiana affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs. The Club is a study group actively involved in promoting music education in many ways.
- The Helm mss. consist of letters, writings, music compositions, and tape recordings belonging to composer and musicologist Everett Helm. Also included are operatic scores largely in the hands of copyists, works of Mme. Laure (Cinthie Montalant) Cinti- Damoreau, singer and composer, and documents connected with the opera in Bologna collected by Helm. There is also Helm correspondence with and about composer, musicologist Gian Francesco Malipiero and letters from Malipiero to translator and stage director Max Heinrich Fischer.

- The Kaufmann mss. consist of a photoreproduction of the complete orchestra score and libretto for The Scarlet letter and the first draft, complete score, and photoreproduction of A Hoosier tale, two operas by composer and conductor Walter Kaufmann.

- The Kerlin mss. are the papers of American Harriet Barton (Kerlin) Bentley and members of three generations of her family. Forming the bulk of the collection are letters to Harriet from members of her family and friends, most of whom were prominent in musical circles.

- The Latin American Guatemala music manuscripts consist of 13 bound volumes and two fragments. These are chiefly religious in nature and were used in the department of Huehuetenango in northwest Guatemala. Due to the fragile condition of these items, microfilm or photocopies will ordinarily be used instead of the original items.

- The Logue mss. consist of writings of poet and song writer Christopher Logue. Included also are drafts of The Lily-White Boys, a play by Harry Cookson and songs by Christopher Logue and some correspondence concerned with the writings.

- The Miner mss. are the papers of poet Virginia (Scott) Miner. Included are musical settings of her poems by composers Leo Ascher, Mary Mildred Chubb, Eileen B. Maltby, and Alfred R. Service.

- ITEM COUNT: 673 items
- The Miscellaneous mss. consist of individual items acquired from a variety of sources. Of particular interest is a 1884-1909 album of autographs, signatures, and letters of musicians and others. Many of the autographs are accompanied by bars of music.

- The Music mss. consist of various items related to music acquired by gift or purchase at various times. Please contact the Manuscripts Department for further information.

- ITEM COUNT: 54 items
- The Nettl mss. consist of letters of musicologist Paul Nettl during his residence at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, and at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. The correspondence is from composers, musicians and musicologists in the U.S. and Europe.

- The L. Payne mss. are the papers of musician Lesley Payne, niece of James Whitcomb Riley. Included is a list of musical settings of James Whitcomb Riley poems.

- The Poole mss. are a collection of ancient, medieval and renaissance manuscripts and single leaves. The collection was formed by George Poole, a Chicago printer and contains some music-related manuscripts. Contact the Manuscripts Department for further information.

- The Rappite mss. consist of correspondence, music books, a hymnal and other papers of the Harmony Society founded by George Rapp.

- The Ricketts mss. are illuminated medieval and renaissance manuscripts assembled by calligrapher Coella Lindsay Ricketts. There are some music-related manuscripts in the collection. Contact the Manuscripts Department for further information.

- The Starr mss. are holograph copies and originals of vocal and instrumental music and one letter collected by Saul Starr. Most of the pieces are undated but appear to belong to the 19th century era of transcribing and composing dances and songs for entertainment at home or before local groups.

- The Barclay Walker mss. consist of musical compositions by Barclay Walker, an Indiana composer and by his daughter Mary Josephine (Walker) Wolff.

- The J.S. Williams mss. are reminiscences under the title, "Skeleton's from a home-spuner's closet," of Indiana schoolteacher John Samuel Williams. Included is a foreword which contains words and music of some songs of pioneer days.

- The Woodforde-Finden mss. are letters written by composer Amy (Ward) Woodforde-Finden. She is best remembered for her work, "Indian Love Lyrics" and her letters speak of attending concerts.

- The Yellen mss. consist of the correspondence and writings of Samuel Yellen, author and professor of English at Indiana University at Bloomington. Included are some of Yellen's poems which have been set to music.
