This list gives the collection name, date range and number of items in a collection followed by a very brief description of the contents of the collection. All of these collections are related to Upton Sinclair.
APPLETON-CENTURY MSS.- DATE RANGE: 1846-1962
- The Appleton-Century mss. are office files of that publishing company and its two predecessors. The collection is filed by the names of authors and Sinclair is represented by one folder of letters and papers dated 1902-1906.

- The Armour mss. consist of letters from Upton Sinclair to Richard Willard Armour, professor of English at Scripps college and Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California. They relate in the main to Sinclair's writings.

- The Baatz mss. consist of correspondence from prominent literary and political figures to Wilmer Henry Baatz, librarian, dealing with literary topics -- Sinclair is one of the literary figures represented in the collection.

- The Boni mss. consist of correspondence of Sinclair with publishers Albert and Charles Boni, concerning the publication of Sinclair's books and certain reprinting rights by Grosset and Dunlap.

- The Browne mss. are the papers of Lewis Browne, author, radio commentator, lecturer, and world traveler. There is correspondence with Sinclair.

- The Cane mss. consist of letters from Upton Sinclair to Melville Henry Cane, lawyer and poet. They relate mainly to Sinclair's writings. Some of them concern legal questions.

- The Colorado-Sinclair mss. consist of letters exchanged between Upton Sinclair and Eugene Holt Wilson, Director of Libraries at the Univ. of Colorado. They are concerned with unsuccessful negotiations for placing the Sinclair papers in the Univ. of Colorado Library.

- The DeWitt mss. consist of letters from Sinclair to Samuel Aaron DeWitt, poet and businessman, and correspondence between Mary Craig (Kimbrough) Sinclair (wife of Upton Sinclair) and DeWitt. The letters relate primarily to Sinclair's and DeWitt's writings.

- The Eastman mss. consist of the correspondence and writings of Max Forrester Eastman, author. There is correspondence between Sinclair and Eastman discussing their writings.

- The Greene, E. mss. consist of the correspondence of Ernest S. Greene, who was employed as Sinclair's secretary in the early 1920s. In 1926 Greene went to New York to work for Vanguard Press. Thereafter Greene was engaged in a number of research projects for Sinclair and served as his representative in the sale and distribution of some of his books including Upton Sinclair presents William Fox. The correspondence concerns these several projects. Between 1929 and 1933 Greene was engaged as secretary of the Committee for the Candidacy of Upton Sinclair for the Nobel prize for literature. Later in 1933-34 some of the correspondence relates to the EPIC campaign of Sinclair.

- The Haldeman mss. consist of that portion of the office file of the Haldeman-Julius Company, publishers, containing correspondence with Sinclair and records of sales of his books by the company during those years. Also includes correspondence with Sinclair and members of the staff of the Appeal to Reason. Some of the letters relate to the publication of articles by Sinclair in the Appeal... and other matters.

- The Hapgood mss. are the papers of Powers Hapgood, labor leader. There is correspondence between Hapgood and Sinclair.

- The Harris, L., mss. consist of the correspondence of Leon A. Harris, author, accumulated in the writing of his book, Upton Sinclair, American Rebel and drafts of his book. There are letters from 1931-1964, to and from Sinclair, which Harris acquired during his research. The later letters to Harris are from many who knew Sinclair, were swayed (or not) by his works, or have written about him.

- The Howatt mss. consist primarily of letters to David Howatt, farmer, and secretary of Sinclair from Harry Kemp, Sinclair, and William James Durant.

- The Keller mss. consist of letters and copies of letters from Sinclair to Adolf Keller, clergyman and professor of theology.

- The Kelley mss. consist of letters written by Sinclair Lewis, novelist to Edith (Summers) Kelley, novelist and secretary of Sinclair at the Helicon Home Colony. Images of Helicon Home Colony are also included.

- The Koul mss. consist of letters of Sinclair to Braj Kishan Koul of Agra, India, translator of European and American fictions into the Hindi language. They relate to the translation of Sinclair's books into Hindi.

- The Kus-Nikolajev mss. are letters from Sinclair to Mirko Kus-Nikolajev, physician of Zagreb, Yugoslavia. They relate to the publication in Yugoslavia of books of Sinclair.

- The Land mss. consist of letters from Sinclair to Ren Land of Holland. They deal with arrangements which Land was making for the translation of some of Sinclair's books into Dutch and their publication in Holland.

- The Lesser mss. consist chiefly of the correspondence between Sol Lesser, motion picture executive and Sinclair, and others. The general theme is that of Sinclair's desire to see the Lanny Budd novels on the screen.

- The Lewin mss. are letters to George Lionel Lewin, bookdealer in England. There are letters from David Sinclair and Upton Sinclair.

- The Lewisohn mss. are largely letters from literary figures to Ludwig Lewisohn, author and critic. There are letters from Sinclair which contain comments on Lewisohn's work.

- The Lush mss. consist of two letters, June 22, 1956, and May 8, 1957, from Upton Sinclair, and a letter of Nov. 13, 1956, from Mary Craig Sinclair, to Samuel Beryl Lush, cotton merchant. They relate to Mary Craig Sinclairs' memoirs, life after death, and telepathy.

- The Sinclair mss. consist of correspondence, writings, agreements and contracts with publishers, poems, and speeches of Sinclair. The correspondents include literary figures, politicians, educators, businessmen, physicians, artists, editors, journalists, and publishers. The collection has been divided into five categories: [1] correspondence, arranged in chronological order; [2] writings, [3] articles, [4] poems, and [5] speeches, arranged by title in alphabetical order.

- The Sinclair mss. II are copies of correspondence of and relating to Sinclair, acquired from other libraries.

- The Sinclair mss. III are letters from Sinclair to an unidentified man. The letters deal with Sinclair's writings, those of the addressee, those of others, and with socialism.

- The Stokes mss. consist primarily of letters from Sinclair to publicist James Graham Phelps Stokes, regarding the activities of the Intercollegiate Socialist Society.

- The Stone mss. are the papers of Meta (Fuller) Stone, poet and first wife of Upton Sinclair. There is correspondence with Sinclair, 1908-1917, and friends. Many of the letters discuss her divorce from Sinclair.

- The Viking Press mss. are the Viking Press office file of its correspondence with Sinclair. They relate to those books of Sinclair which the Viking Press published during these years, including his Lanny Budd series, 1940-53; an edition of The Jungle, 1946; Another Pamela, 1950; and The Enemy Had It Too, 1950. Subjects dealt with are the writing, publication, sale, foreign language rights, motion picture rights, use on radio and television, and reviews of these books. Most of the correspondence is between Benjamin W. Huebsch of Viking Press and Sinclair.

- The Warren mss. are primarily letters from Eugene Victor Debs, socialist leader, to Fred D. Warren, author. There are letters between Warren and Sinclair. Sinclair wrote the preface to "The Little Old Appeal" a history of the Appeal to Reason (a newspaper of the masses) which was written by Warren.
