Collection of nineteenth-century British patents

The patents have been divided into 6 groups: history of the book; photography; theater; toilets and sewerage; transportation; and miscellaneous (highlighted groups link to appropriate section in page, unhighlighted groups do not appear on this page). The patents relating to the history of the book have been further subdivided into: bookbinding; paper; printing presses and machinery; reading and writing materials and instruments; and type. For more from this collection, see Addendum 1 (Aug. 2012).

The bulk of the patents are from British inventors; some inventors are from the Continent, and some are from the United States.
