A Flowering of Affection: Victorian Valentine Cards at the Lilly Library
Kate Greenway was one of the most popular illustrators of the late Victorian era. As a young woman, she produced illustrations for at least 32 separate sets of greeting cards for the publisher Marcus Ward. Each set included four to six illustrations.Greenaway's cards were issued for a variety of holidays, and frequently the same images might be packaged for multiple occasions. The card on the left was issued as one of a set of four. Its variations include Valentine, New Year's, and Christmas greetings.
