Kate Greenaway

Kate Greenway was one of the most popular illustrators of the late Victorian era. As a young woman, she produced illustrations for at least 32 separate sets of greeting cards for the publisher Marcus Ward. Each set included four to six illustrations.

Greenaway's cards were issued for a variety of holidays, and frequently the same images might be packaged for multiple occasions. The card on the left was issued as one of a set of four. Its variations include Valentine, New Year's, and Christmas greetings.
