Overview
Click the title to see the full display of a bibliographic record. The
full display includes the author, title, publishing and
descriptive information, subject headings, contributors, ISBN, ISSN, and, if
available, the URL.
If a title contains multiple volumes, a Holdings statement for each library
will appear immediately following the full bibliographic record.
The Holdings statement is accurate and complete.
Below the full bibliographic record and Holdings statement will be the
call number, library code, and shelving location code. The shelving location
code might be Checked out.
If an item is checked out a recall may be placed on that item.
If a title contains multiple volumes, the volume numbers or description of
the volume may be listed along with the call number. A library may have more
volumes than are listed individually.
The Holdings statement is the accurate and complete summary of volumes.
On the right side of the record display there is a box with several options.
- The first option is a Mark button that allows you to mark the item
for Print/Email/Save.
- The second option is Request Delivery, from here you may request a
book to be delivered to the library of your choice.
- The third option is to Find more on these subjects. Clicking here
will conduct a search for all of the subject headings on this record.
- The fourth option allows you to Continue search in Google Books or
WorldCat.
- The fifth option allows you Limit Your Search Results to the Following
Categories. Select one of
the categories to limit large search results to materials with similar
call numbers.
Hypertext
Each record in IUCAT will contain hypertext links to related records. Hypertext links
appear as red, underlined text
and may appear in several fields of the record such as author,series, and subjects.

Charles, 1809-1882 appears in one of the author fields.

Change Display
You may change the display from Full to Brief by clicking on the tab.
Change Display also appears on the navigation bar. This option allows you to
change how record information is displayed and to limit the display
to only one library's holdings.
Change the display from Full to Brief to see less
information. The brief view might be useful for print purposes.
Change to the All
display to see the most complete bibliographic information.
Marking Records to Print/Email/Save
Records may be marked to print, email
or save from the Search Results screen by clicking in the box to
the right of the record.
Individual records may be marked to print, email or save when displaying the
brief or full record.
Electronic Resources
The IU Libraries subscribe to many electronic resources that are available to Indiana
University students, faculty and staff, these resources are accessible
through IUCAT. Each campus library may have subscriptions to different resources. Users
affiliated with each campus will have access only to the electronic resources his/her
campus library subscribes to.
On the bibliographic record for the electronic resource there will be a field labeled
URL.
At the beginning of a field there may be a campus designation, i.e. IUPUI, only users
affiliated with IUPUI may click on the URL to retrieve the electronic resource.
If there is not a campus location at the beginning of the field labeled URL, users
affiliated with
all campuses may retrieve that resource.
Request Delivery
Indiana University students, faculty and staff may place requests online for delivery of
materials to another library. Materials that are checked out may not be requested.
Requests for delivery usually takes 4-7 working days
to complete.
Click on the Request Delivery link in the box to the right of the record.
Select a library from the drop down menu. This is the library where you will pick up
your materials.
Click on the Request Delivery button.
Your request will be confirmed or denied. If the request is denied,
click on More Options to learn why your request failed.
If you want additional assistance click on the campus or library that you use most
often.
ALF Delivery Request
The Auxiliary Library Facility (B-ALF) is an off-site Bloomington Library storage location.
Materials at this location will be delivered to a Bloomington Library of your choice.
A "Request this item" link appears next to every item owned by B-ALF.
Click on the link to request the item.
Complete and submit the form.
