The Indiana State Library and its Professional Development Committee are now accepting applications for the 2013 Indiana Librarian Leadership Academy. The Professional Development Committee established the Academy to prepare emerging library leaders for 21st-Century challenges.  Library leaders of all backgrounds, will all kinds of experience, and in all types of libraries are encouraged to apply for the 2nd-annual program.

Members of the Indiana State Library Professional Development Committee will review all applications as part of a competitive selection process. Only applications completed by the deadline, including all letters of reference, and that meet the following criteria will be considered.
  • Any applicants who are currently employed must obtain permission from their employer to participate.

  • Participants are expected to contribute in each meeting, workshop, or seminar, in addition to being a leader in their community or in the greater library community through the capstone project. New IUCAT Staff Training Materials

The Training Group for the new IUCAT has developed staff training materials to help staff in IU libraries around the state to prepare their colleagues for the new catalog.

Several PowerPoint presentations have been posted and linked to the IUCAT Beta blog (soon to be renamed the New IUCAT blog) at:

You will find seven sets of PowerPoint slides that you can download and combine, edit, and use in your own training.  An additional set is coming in a week or so.  The slide sets are:
  • General Features
  • Basic Search
  • Advanced Search
  • Managing Search Results
  • Bibliographic Record
  • My Account
  • Browse by Call Number
Click on the link to Staff Resources to find them.

We will revise, update, and add to these over the next few months as we learn more about the catalog and its new functionality.  Please send comments and suggestions to Mary Popp at

In addition, we will sponsor an overview of the new catalog later this month using Adobe Connect.  Watch for scheduled times!

Available Now: Spring 2013 Issue of InULA Notes

Are you curious about the new InULA Staff Professional Development Award?  InULA President Kate Moore talks about the award and the progress of other InULA initiatives.  Kate's letter is the perfect introduction for an issue that focuses on a couple of new and evolving library services.  Courtney Greene's conversational piece, "Discovering a New IUCAT," describes how the new Blacklight-powered discovery layer is different than the 'old' IUCAT and raises discussion-worthy implications of these changes.  Stacy Konkiel interviews Associate Dean for Collection Development & Scholarly Communication, Julie Bobay, about the IUB Scholars Commons, which is scheduled to open in the Wells Library in spring of 2014.

Don't miss the winning essays of our two Julieann V. Nilson Scholarship winners, John W. Davis III and Melissa C.M. Glidden or Brian Winterman's report on how the InULA Research Incentive Fund aided him in developing a model for integrating information literacy into an academic program.

InULA Notes Vol. 25, No. 1 is available at the new home of InULA Notes:
