I am pleased to announce that Nick Homenda will be joining the Digital Collections Services department as the Digital Projects Librarian, a one year visiting assistant librarian position.  His first day will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Nick comes to our department with many years of digital library, special collections, and archives experience including an earlier stint in 2005-2006 in the Digital Library Program as a Digitization Assistant while he was a graduate student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  In 2010, Nick worked at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas where he provided support across a broad spectrum of library and research services including: reference, instruction, metadata analysis for the Edgar Allen Poe digital collection, and curation of an exhibit in honor of Aaron Copland's A Lincoln Portrait. Upon graduation from the University of Texas, Nick headed to the University of South Carolina where he worked as the Music Librarian for Audio and Digital Services.  More recently, Nick was part of the IU Libraries' Scholarly Communication department, where he worked as the IUScholarWorks Coordinator.  Nick brings an impressive amount of experience and expertise to this position that will benefit the libraries and the scholars and students we serve as we in the IU Libraries explore the role of the Digital Collections Services department in light of the Scholars' Commons and Office of Scholarly Publishing.

Book Drive

The tornadoes in Oklahoma caused much loss and devastation.  It is difficult to replace all that was lost, but the IUB School of Library and Information Science is trying to make a dent by having a book drive.  SLIS is teaming up with Moore Books for Moore Kids, located in Moore,Oklahoma.  The goal is to focus on mainly children's books, but teen or adult books will also be happily accepted.  Please limit your donations to new or gently used books.  Books will be collected until Thursday, June 30.  Drop off points are at: SLIS, room 11, Informatics West 102, and Lindley Hall 215.  Any help is much appreciated!
