InULA Membership Renewal Reminder

This is a friendly reminder that it's past time to renew your InULA membership. Regular membership dues are $10 for the membership year July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014.  You can renew your membership on the new website by going here.

When you renew, you will be redirected to pay through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to pay.  If you do not have a PayPal account, click on the Don't Have a PayPal Account link and you will be able to input your information.

After renewing, you will be asked to register for the website and then you can choose your committee preferences.  If you have any questions, you can contact Ria Lukes, chair, at or Jennifer Laherty, treasurer, at

Members can opt out of paying by PayPal and pay by check instead.  When you go onto the InULA website to renew your membership, for now, fill out the "Retired" form.  This will allow you to sign up and you can mail in your payment.  You will still be considered a Regular member of InULA.  Just send your check payment to:

Mark Your Calendars! Fall meetings of the Metadata Discussion Group

The Metadata Discussion Group meets monthly to discuss metadata issues pertaining to libraries, archives, and museums.  The group has no formal membership.  Library staff, ILS faculty and students, and those on campus interested in the topic are welcome to attend.  Here are the dates and meeting topics for the fall semester.

InULA Research Incentive Grants: Now Accepting Applications

InULA invites applications for its Research Incentive Grants, with an application deadline of Tuesday, October 15

Any regular member of InULA is eligible to apply.  Projects should fall within the scope of at least one of the categories of support listed on this page.

Applications should consist of a completed application form, current CV, and one to three letters of support.

Applications forms and all supporting documentation should be submitted electronically to the current chair of InULA's Scholarship & Grants Committee, Catherine Minter (

OLE@IU: Kuali Days & Kuali OLE Monthly Update - August 2013

Kuali Days UK

The Kuali Foundation has announced a new event, Kuali Days United Kingdom (KDUK), to be held Monday, October 29 - Tuesday, October 30 in London.  This event will feature several keynote speakers, including Ruth Lilly Dean of University Libraries Brenda L. Kuali OLE Monthly Update - August 2013

The Kuali OLE Monthly Update for Partners for August 2013 has been posted to the OLE@IU Blog and can be viewed here.

Highlights from this month include:
  • Release 1.0 code freeze; QA testing started
  • Year 4 Mellon grant proposal submitted
  • UX and usability initiatives continue (Kuali community and OLE)

Polly Boruff-Jones

Polly Boruff-Jones Joins IU Kokomo as Dean of the Library

Indiana University Kokomo Interim Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke announces the appointment of Polly Boruff-Jones as Dean of the Library.  She began her position Monday, September 9.

Boruff-Jones most recently was director of library and information services at F.W. Olin Library, Drury University, Springfield, Mo., where she also served as director of academic computing.  She previously was associate dean for learning, teaching, and research at Indiana University -- Purdue University Indianapolis.

As dean of the library, she will lead all areas of library administration and operation.

Boruff-Jones earned a bachelor's degree in political science and environmental science, a Master of Library Science, and a Master of Public Affairs in nonprofit management, all from Indiana University.

Banned Books Week
Next week, September 22-28, is Banned Books Week!  Banned Books is an important annual event that focuses on the right to read and intellectual freedom.  There are many ways to celebrate Banned Books Week -- be sure to check out the website for more information.  Each year, the ALA and the Office of Intellectual Freedom produce a list of books that were challenged or banned.  This year, some banned or challenged titles include classics and contemporary books like: Romeo and Juliet, Looking for Alaska, Persepolis, Beloved, The Most Dangerous Game, and more.
