So we have completed our first there-and-back. At this point, we need to tie off our thread and the tail we left when we started. This is done by tying the two in a simple knot twice. The knot referred to is pictured here.

This will create the first loop of the kettle stitch at this end of the text block. It will serve exactly the same function as the first loop at the other end of the text block, the one indicated by the red arrow a few slides back.
