Request for Mass Deacidification Project Proposals

The Preservation Department is implementing a mass deacidification program for the Indiana University Libraries. Funding is currently available to treat acidic books using the Bookkeeper process that was developed according to the Library of Congress specifications. Deacidification significantly extends the life of materials that are printed on acidic paper by neutralizing the harmful acids that cause embrittlement. This process is an appropriate treatment for collections that possess long-term research value and need to be preserved in their original formats.

Proposals for mass deacidification project should be submitted to ___________. Collections of approximately 1,000 to 5,000 volumes will be considered. Guidelines for developing projects are outlined in the document "Guidelines for Developing Mass Deacidification Projects". Proposals should include the following information:

Please contact Mechael Charbonneau (mgago), Head, Preservation Department if you would like more information on the Bookkeeper process or mass deacidification projects.
