Willis S. Blatchley: Scholar, Educator, Naturalist (PE-01)
Willis Stanley Blatchley was State Geologist of Indiana from 1894 until 1910. It was the prime period of oil and gas production, Indiana building limestone was in its heyday, and coal mining thrived and grew. And the early 20th century saw the first major emphasis on road building.

Blatchley procured the services of outstanding geologists whose valuable research on Indiana's mineral resources and geology was published in annual reports.

Blatchley wrote mroe than 200 scientific papers and books and lectured throughout the United States. He was gifted in geology, botany, entomolgy, and zoology.
