Biographical Research: K.G. Saur Biographical Archives

Each "biographical archive" produced by the German publisher K.G. Saur is an alphabetical compilation of entries from hundreds of historical biographical sources. The entries are replicated on microfiche. Each Archive has, or will have, a printed Index.

The project began with a German "archive" and has gradually expanded to cover much of the world. Chronologically, the K.G. Saur archives concentrate on the late 19th and early 20th centuries, although most of the archives extend back much further and several have been brought up to the 1970s or 80s.

The IUB Libraries own or are in the process of acquiring the entire collection of K.G. Saur Biographical Archives and Indexes. See the K.G. Saur catalog for a complete list. They can be located in IUCAT by searching by the title of the Archive or Index.

K.G. Saur also produces the World Biographical Index, an web-based master index to a selection of Archives, including North America and western Europe. WBI is a useful source even without the corresponding Biographical Archives, since it contains variations of names, pseudonyms, birth and death dates or years mentioned and occupation.
