Based on the Oxford Reference Dictionary (1986), this one-volume
dictionary contains biographical, historical, and geographical entries
with some 7,000 articles on a wide variety of topics including arts,
sciences, philosophy, etc. in addition to conventional dictionary
material. This Australian edition derives "local" authority from the
Australian National Dictionary (1988), the only fully documented record of
some 10,000 Australianisms which are included in this compact source.
Entries are succinct, yet informative, and written in an engaging style.
