Alternate title: Litovskaia sovetskaia entsiklopediia. Similar to other general encyclopedias produced during the 1970's and 1980's for the various Soviet Republics, with an emphasis on Lithuanian issues. The articles are of medium length, with bibliographies included for major topics with many citations to Russian language works. The encyclopedia is profusely illustrated with picture, portraits, diagrams, and maps of varying quality. Volume 12 is a supplement that covers topics missed in the earlier version as well as providing some more up-to-date information.
