How to Contact Us
DROP BY THE REFERENCE DESK
At the Reference Desk help is available at the moment you need it; someone is
always there. Librarians and appointed staff are on duty from 8 am to 10
pm Monday-Thursday, from 8 am to 5 pm on Fridays, and from 1-5 on
Saturdays and Sundays. Graduate students from the School of Library and
Information Science assist during the remaining hours the Main Library is
open.
BY PHONE (call 855-8028)
Help is available from anywhere by telephone.
Calls are most useful for a specific, urgent, brief inquiry.
The phone is answered at the Reference Desk, and
there are no canned messages or buttons to push;
a human being will speak with you and assist you with your question.
ELECTRONIC MAIL (e-mail)
Send a message to
libref@indiana.edu
This is a very good way to reach us
Help is available from anywhere you can use a computer that is connected
to the network or equipped with a modem. We check for messages throughout
the day every and try to answer as quickly as possible (usually within the
hour but always within 24 hours). Ask any kind of question which might
be asked in person through this medium. We will suggest a library
research direction, answer a specific factual query, check a problem
citation, etc.; the only limitation here is that we do not deal with lists
of items, addresses, etc. If we need to pass your question on to someone
with special expertise we will do that and let you know.
BY APPOINTMENT
Send a message to
libref@indiana.edu
We can offer you uninterrupted, in-person assistance and match your needs
to the best available assistance. You may want to try the Reference Desk
or e-mail first, but if you find those resources inadequate or
inappropriate, send an e-mail message to LIBREF describing your needs;
we will find the right person to help you and that person
will contact you to set up a mutually agreeable time to meet.
