Bibliographic Index Description
The Researching Brazil Bibliographic Index is a fully searchable database of citations from over 70 academic
journals in history and the social sciences published in Brazil. In addition to historiographical,
bibliographic, and literature review essays, the database also features interviews with intellectuals,
prominent scholars, and public figures; articles describing archival and data set collections; debates on
theoretical and methodological issues; and notes on research in progress.
The index focuses on Brazilian Studies, but it also contains citations by or about
internationally renowned scholars whose research has influenced Brazilian scholarship and intellectual
circles. Most of the journals included in the database emerged during the 1990s and many do not yet appear
in bibliographic indexes such as HAPI Online, Historical Abstracts, or Sociological Abstracts. Coverage goes
back to the mid-1980s for selected key titles, such as Dados: revista de ciências socias,
Revista brasileira de história, and Boletim informativo e bibliográfico de ciências
sociais: BIB.
