Personal Names
Romanized form of heading

When constructing a heading for a person who is famous enough to be found in English-language reference sources, look for the heading in the following three sources:
  1. If the form of the name found is the same in all three encyclopedias, use the form found there.
  2. If the name is found in all three encyclopedias, but the form varies, use the form found in the Encyclopaedia Britannica
  3. If the name is not found in all three encyclopedias, use the systematically romanized form of the name.
For persons of more specific fame, or of too recent fame, consult major specialized encyclopedias, or indexes of major newspapers.
