Academics
Freshmen and sophomores living at Collins take one Collins seminar a year. Because enrollment is limited to 20 students, these seminars offer students an exciting opportunity to interact closely with an instructor and their peers. Seminars are chosen by the student members of the Board of Educational Programming and approved by the Collins Faculty Curriculum Committee.
Collins seminars tend to be interdisciplinary and innovative. They are taught by instructors from across the University and typically satisfy distributional requirements. A number of IU’s most popular courses (e.g., Glenn Gass’s “The Music of the Beatles”) were first offered as Collins seminars. Expeditions classes and visiting scholar/artist classes satisfy the Collins seminar requirement.
