These 1- or 2-credit-hour courses provide the opportunity to become immersed in hands-on participation in one of the arts or another area of interest on campus or in the local community.
Arts Options: A recent course focused on three-dimensional self-portraiture. Students studied sculptural self-portraits by a variety of artists and created works of their own.
Eco Options: A course that has been offered several times, “Edible Wild Plants,” takes students out into the field (and woods, meadows, and wetlands) to locate, identify, draw, and sample local native edible plants.
Service Options: Every spring, students have the opportunity to take a course that provides support to the RISE kids at Middle Way House (the transitional housing shelter for women and children who have been the victims of domestic violence) through our Spring Break for Kids course. Activities might include hiking at McCormick’s Creek State Park, visiting local museums, swimming at the Y, and much more.
