Hello, My name is Erin Carpenter. I am currently a sophomore majoring in International Studies. I am also interested Spanish and history. I plan to study abroad and hope to eventually work in South America. I am originally from Indianapolis. Some other things I like are art, bike rides, tea and reading. Through Q199, I will introduce you to the exciting Collins, IU, and Bloomington communities. As your Q-teacher, I am here to show you the resources available to you to aid your success in college. In class, I will help ease the transition from high school to college and have fun and make new friends along the way.

After spending the summer around the world, Kristen Cattell will be ready to add a vibrant splash of sunshine to Q199. She loves language, a good guitar solo, and leafing through the pages of the New York Times. When Kristen isn't studying or napping in the courtyard, she is mostly likely keeping up with the student organizations at IU. As a State champion in Speech and a go-to-girl for Invisible Children, she has enthusiasm and hope for all of the things that she is involved in.
As an advocate of wellness, empowerment, and diversity, Kristen will encourage you use your passions to make a huge impact within the Collins community. :)

I believe you can make Collins whatever you want it to be. For some this is just a dorm. But, for most this where life-long friendships are born and you discover something about yourself. I am a Junior majoring in Theatre and English. In my class expect to have fun, make friends, and not be bored with useless readings and homework.

Hi! My name is Courtney and I am a sophomore this year at IU. I’m double majoring in journalism (with a concentration in photojournalism) and political science. I am also considering a minor in history. Besides being a Q-teacher here at Collins LLC I am also the editor-in-chief of the weekly Collins newsletter The Collins Columns (you should submit!!). I also work for the daily IU newspaper The Indiana Daily Student as a photographer. I really enjoy spending time in the Collins courtyard, procrastinating, going to dance parties, traveling, spending time with my friends and family, and photography. My favorite color is green and I have black lab named Parker who I miss a lot when I’m at school. I can’t wait to meet you and I hope you loooooove living at Collins as much as I do!

My name is Marianna "Mari" Eble and I am a sophomore studying Biology and Spanish as majors. I also DJ a radio show for WIUX in Bloomington and am extremely music oriented.  The eight weeks we have together are going to be fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable, I can assure you.  I am the Chair of Collins' Community Council and, as such, can help you to enjoy all the benefits of programming at the Collins level and beyond.  Personally, I have helped to put on a Benefit and Awareness Show for the non-profit organization Invisible Children and also helped with the establishment of the "Mr. Collins" Pageant as a staple of our yearly programming schedule.
I am one of five kids and can understand feeling a little overcrowded in a hectic environment.  It is my job to help you get acclimated and feel comfortable in your new home.  Get excited!  Being freshmen at college is way better than being freshmen in high school because all of the seniors are jealous that you have four more years at this fabulous establishment.

Hello and welcome! You’ve seen the pictures, heard about the reputation, and are pumped about the healthy food options, right? So what else is there to offer from Collins LLC? It is called home by [about] 500 residents, home to the most programs of any IU residence hall, and has a plethora of facilities that any resident can take advantage of. But that just sums up the tangible aspects of a place some refer to as “Hogwarts.” Collins LLC also offers a sense of community, safety, and trust that we are sure to discuss in Q-Class. Come prepared, come happy, and get pumped because you are the newest class of Collinsites!

I’m a junior majoring in English and Political Science, and I l-o-v-e the LLC. For the past two years, I held the position of The Lantern co-editor (it’s the Collins’ yearbook – YES, we have a yearbook!), and this will be my second year on executive board, serving as historian.

Greetings and Salutations future Collinsites! I’m Meg and I am overly enthusiastic about being a Q teacher for Fall 09! I’m a sophomore majoring in Telecommunications and hopefully acquiring a minor in music as well. I’m basically in love with being involved and living at Collins. I want my Q class to be all about you and what you want and need to know, not only about Collins but also about IU and the Bloomington community. Expect our class to be full of bad puns, good music, and hopefully some great YouTube clips. Things you can do to get on my good side are: introduce me to new music, talk to me about yarn (I’m an obsessive knitter), visit me in The Cheshire Café, talk to me about Star Trek, or just bring an open mind and expressive opinion to our class. So if you find me in the courtyard playing guitar, singing, chilling, or knitting feel free to stop by and say “Hello!” I can’t wait meet so many brand new faces this year!

Greetings!   My name is Alex and I'm a sophomore majoring in psychology and sociology.  This will be my second year living in Collins, and I don't think I could call any other place home.  I'm really excited to help new Collinsites learn about the LLC and its surroundings, so I hope that some of my love for this place can rub off onto others.  My goals for Q-class are to teach my students how to better interact with their peers, how to utilize the awesome resources that Collins has to offer, how to improve their community, and most importantly, how to have fun doing it all.  I promise that my dorkiness won't get in the way of my goals too much!  If you happen to see me around, I'm probably engaging in unusual conversation with others, playing a random musical instrument, relaxing in the courtyard, or doing all of the above.

Hello and welcome to Collins! I’m Josh Nosie, one of the Q instructors for Fall ‘09. I am a junior, and my major and passion is political science. I also enjoy having thoughtful, intelligent conversations, which is very easy to do at a place like Collins. Over the next eight weeks, it is my goal to give you a better understanding of what Collins is and what we stand for, as well as learning a little more about IU and the community of Bloomington in general. It is also my goal for you to enjoy this course, and in addition to engaging class readings and discussions, we will be taking a few field trips over the course of the eight weeks.

Hey there you crazy Collinsites!
I’m Farrell Paules, your new Q199 instructor!  I’m a sophomore double majoring in Comparative Literature and Theatre & Drama with a double minor in Philosophy and Spanish.  I absolutely love and adore Collins (I’m the Literary Arts Coordinator for Arts Council and a member of the Board of Programmers), Indiana U (I’m a foilist for the fencing club), and Bloomington (I’m an actor with Theatre of the People’s Artistic Collaboration Troupe).  Along with Collins and its sheer awesomeness, I’m completely obsessed with Star Wars, Harry Potter, Nathan Fillion, collecting siblings, my majors and minors, creating playlists on Playlist.com, making (obscure) references to absolutely anything I can, and a lot of other random/cool/crazy/nerdy things! Can’t wait to meet you and see how you’re going to add to the wonderful atmosphere of Collins Living-Learning Center!

Oy! Velcome! Yes, folks, that is my hapless attempt at devising some sort of creative salutation to set me apart from the other lovely faces surrounding this blurb! In other news, I am a second-year Collinsite, studying things like Cognitive Science, Comparative Corrections, and Spanish, and I really love this place. Hopefully I'll see some of your shiny teeth smiling in my Q-class. I like good discussions, and I hope to be able to have some conversations with you all on topics that interest you, and to hear your stories.

Hi there, brand new Collinsites! My name's Josh, and I'm a sophomore in my second year at Collins and stoked to be coming back! I was in your shoes last year as a freshman: I had to go through Q Class just like you, and I found that it really helped. In fact, I liked it so much that I decided to teach it this year and carry on the tradition of the Collins community helping one another! I'm going to help you get acquainted with Collins (the best LLC around) as well as IU (the best university around)! We're gonna have fun by playing games, going on mini-field trips, and listening to some stand-up comedy. I'm going to prove to you that Collins isn't just a dorm; it's home! Just a tad about myself: As I said, I'm a sophomore and second year Collinsite. I'm majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing, and I'm considering a minor in history, Italian, or whatever else may catch my interest. I'm an aspiring author, and I hope to work as an editor/publisher after college. I love reading, hanging out with my friends, playing and watching basketball, listening to and singing with music, and singing with the Sexy Flatts, Collins' own a cappella group! If there's anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. I'm greatly looking forward to seeing you in the fall.

Welcome to Collins! My name is Bradley Williams. I am a sophomore studying Accounting and Finance in the Kelley School of Business. During the 2009-2010 school year I will be the SOA Treasurer at Collins and a Q-Instructor to a group of lucky students. People ask me why I chose to live in Collins; my reply is simple: The people. Everyone is non-judgmental, aside from being proactive, creative, and curious. This system of shared values is in part formed because of Q-class. Something interesting about me? Although I technically served on the Board of Programmers for my Q-Project, my friend and I learned the Collins programming process by holding a discussion of “Bokononism,” the fictitious religion created by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. in Cat’s Cradle.

Welcome to Collins!  Maybe a foreign place now, but soon Collins will become your home sweet home.  Here you will find all sorts of people, from inspiring philosophers, to innovative artists, to disciplined jocks, to free-loving hippies.  Besides our wide variety of interests and talents, everyone here at Collins is open to new friends, new ideas, and just looking to have a good time.

About me: I am a sophomore from Ohio majoring in Human Biology and studying business through the LAMP (Liberal Arts Management Program).  I love traveling, the outdoors, music of all kinds, photography (especially B&W film), sports (currently triathlons), and listening to crashing summer thunderstorms.

About my class:  We will explore, learn, discuss, create, chat, and eat together.  When I was a freshman, Q-Class was a worthwhile introduction to Collins, IU, and college in general so I want to provide the same for my students.  I will focus on your wants and needs, sprinkling in my advice and wisdom.  My class will be filled with guest appearances and field trips to places around campus and some off campus, from the hot spots to the secret hideaways.
