Latinos Unidos, established on the Indiana University campus in 1979, strives to promote the identity and unity of the Latino students through intellectual, cultural and social growth and to increase their visibility and involvement in campus and community activities.
The group is open to each and every student enrolled here at IU and boasts up to sixty members a year; Latino and Non-Latino students. Each year an Executive Council is elected by it membership who attend bi-weekly meetings at La Casa - The Latino Cultural Center. Members are also able to vote on issues which promote and coordinate events, participate in annual educational conferences, and help with fundraisers. Some of Latinos Unidos' annual events include: Sportsfest and El Día de la Raza.

LATINOS UNIDOS OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY

Preamble
The goal of Latinos Unidos is to promote the identity and unity of the Latino students through intellectual, cultural, and social growth and to increase their visibility and involvement in campus and community activities.
Article I
Name - Latinos Unidos of Indiana University (LUIU)
Article II
LUIU shall be a student run organization. All persons registered and enrolled as students at Indiana University may become members of LUIU.
Article III
General Assembly
A. Membership
shall be the policy-making body of LUIU, and shall have the power to delegate its powers and duties to the Executive Council for the efficient administration of LUIU.
shall have the power to direct the implementation of any service, program, or activity as long as it does not violate this constitution.
shall provide an official voice through its Executive Council through which student opinion may be expressed, and shall have the power to express, by resolution or other means, its opinion in any matter affecting Latino students.
shall have the power to request reports or other pertinent data from any LUIU officer or committee.
shall provide for regular meeting of the General Assembly; or meet at least once a month.
shall hold all other powers as are necessary and proper for carrying out the provisions for this constitution.
The voting membership shall be known as the General Assembly.
B. Dues
payment of the annual dues shall grant a student full voting rights for two (2) academic semesters. Payment of the semester dues shall grant a student full voting rights for one (1) academic semester.
annual dies shall be $8.00 to be paid within the first five (5) weeks of the semester. Semester dues shall be $5.00 to be paid within the first five weeks of that semester.
if, for any reason, a paid member is not registered and enrolled in the university, their membership will not be active for that semester. If the paid member re-registers and enrolls, their membership will become active for one (1) semester. The inactive period shall not exceed one (1) semester.
only those students who have paid the annual dies are eligible to vote.
C. Quorum
A quorum for the General Assembly shall be fulfilled when at least one-third (1/3) of the paid membership is present.
