La Casa/Latino Cultural Center
La Casa plays two key roles as an advocate for the Latino community. First, La Casa creates an environment where anyone in the Latino community can come and feel a sense of community and belonging. Second, La Casa helps to develop a greater cultural, historical, and political awareness regarding Latinos by working closely with other units on campus and city agencies.
Groups Student Support Services
The Groups Student Support Services was established as a pilot project in the fall of 1968 as an effort to address low college attendance rates among first-generation, low-income, and disabled students in Indiana. At that time, the program enrolled 43 students; now the program admits more than 200 students each year to the Indiana University Bloomington campus.
Faculty and Staff for Student Excellence (FASE) Mentoring Program
FASE pairs its students with faculty and staff mentors who share their academic and social interests. Mentors and mentees meet regularly during the first six weeks of the year; after this transitional period, participants are free to meet as often a s they choose. Mentors and mentees enjoy a wide variety of activities together, from operas to football games. The FASE family also gathers each semester for social events such as pizza parties and recognition banquets.
The Mathematics and Science Scholarships Program (MASS)
IU's Mathematics and Science Scholarships (MASS) program is designated to help academically talented minority high school graduates who will attend IU Bloomington and plan to major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, computer science, or mathematics.
Minority Achievers Program (MAP)
Minority Achievers Program (MAP) is designed to help academically talented undergraduate minority students at IU Bloomington. The program aids students who will pursue a Bachelors degree in any field, using an innovative combination of scholarships, personal attention, and social/cultural activities.
McNair's Program
The McNair Scholars Program at Indiana University-Bloomington prepares low- income, first-generation and minority undergraduates for graduate study at the doctoral level. Each year, 20 McNair Scholars participate in academic year and summer activities that include research and teaching experiences. The McNair Scholars Program aims to increase the number of groups underrepresented in doctoral programs.
Minority Education Association (MEA)
The Minority Education Association was developed to address the needs of minority graduate and undergraduate students as they pursue their degree programs at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Minorities in Business Program
The Minorities in Business Program (MIBP) has been a part of the Kelley School of Business since 1989. Developed to address the needs of minority students applying for and gaining admission to the Kelley School of Business, this program recruits students from Black, Hispanic and Native American populations. Desirable qualities for prospective candidates include academic excellence, leadership, motivation and commitment.
Project TEAM
Project TEAM (Transformative Education Achievement Model) is an important part of the School of Education's efforts to prepare teachers or culturally diverse student populations. The primary purpose of Project TEAM is to offer a community within the School of Education that provides academic, social, personal, and financial support for students from underrepresented minorities who wish to become teachers. Project Team has been in existence since 1996.
V.F.M.R Volunteers for Minority Recruitment
VFMR (Volunteers for Minority Recruitment) is a student run organization that is based at the Indiana University Office of Admissions. The goal of the organization is to increase the minority (African-American, Latino and Native American) student enrollment. The recruiting process includes giving campus tours, participating in panel discussions, calling admitted minority students, and traveling to various cities to give prospective students an opportunity to learn more about Indiana University.
