Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry is IU’s newest academic department. Work by biochemists increasingly forms the basis of new techniques and treatments employed by physicians to treat disease; in IU’s Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Department, our priority area is structural virology and virus assembly. Most of our faculty study medically relevant viruses, like hepatitis B and C. With newly hired scientists like Cheng Kao and Adam Zlotnik, who are world leaders in virology, and with adjunct colleagues such as chemist Bogdan Dragnea and biologist Tuli Mukopadhyay, IU Bloomington is one of the best places in the world for this type of science.
