Foundations in Science and Mathematics - IU

FSM offers 2-week courses in a variety of disciplines to help high school and rising high school students get a head start in their upcoming courses and provide opportunities for young scholars to get hands-on experiments in the laboratory. Theilges lab grad students help teach Introductory Chemistry and Chemistry in Food courses. For more information or to check out registration, visit the FSM website.

Groups Scholars Program - STEM Initiative

The Groups Scholars Program in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math seeks to prepare underrepresented, first-generation college students for careers in scientific research and public health by providing them with research opportunities, mentoring, and academic support. Thielges group lab members have participated with young researchers in this program, giving them a hands-on experience in our lab before they even begin their freshman year at IU. For more information on the program, check out their website: Groups Scholars Program STEM Initiative.

Brownie Girl Scout Math and Science Day

We in the Thielges group firmly believe in the importance of reching out to young women and providing female role models for scientific growth. Each year we look forward to attending Brownie Girl Scout Math and Science Day, where we get to interact with young women and teach them a little something about lasers and light.
