Mark Rodefeld, MD

Associate Professor of Surgery

Specialty: Cardiac Surgery

Medical School: Indiana University School of Medicine

Residency: Washington University School of Medicine

Fellowship: Stanford University; University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Rodefeld is pioneering new approaches for the treatment of children and adults with single ventricle heart disease. His research laboratory is funded by the National Institutes of Health. The work incorporates bioengineering with surgical science and device development for innovative catheter-based rotary blood pumps.

Clinical Research Interests: Pediatric cardiothoracic diseases

Basic Research Interests: Single ventricle physiology; Fontan circulation

Dr. Rodefeld's research effort is aimed at solving ongoing challenges related to single ventricle heart disease. This includes large animal studies related to mechanisms of physiologic adaptation to univentricular Fontan circulation and novel mechanical circulatory support strategies to improve hemodynamic status in single ventricle (Fontan) physiology.
