Undergraduate Area Certificate
The undergraduate certificate is designed for undergraduates interested in the medieval period within their own majors who are seeking additional training in preparation for graduate work. The program also provides students majoring in the sciences, social sciences, and business the opportunity to take a broad range of courses in the humanities.

Course requirements: Students must complete a minimum of 24 hours from at least three departments, including:
- 6 credit hours of language above the 100 level in Latin, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, or Persian
- A historical survey
- 15 credit hours of electives, chosen either from the Institute offerings or medieval courses in other departments
- At least two courses must be at the 300 level or above, and no more than one course can be at the 100 level
