The Creative Writing Program at Indiana University in Bloomington offers both the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) and the Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in fiction and poetry. The M.F.A. is a three-year, 60 credit hour program designed as a terminal degree for the student whose goal is a career as a professional writer or teacher of creative writing at the college level. The M.A. is a 30 credit hour program. Both programs require a creative thesis and are characterized by small classes, informal creative writing workshops, and close contact with fellow students and faculty.
Prospective applicants will find detailed information and e-mail links to our program director and secretary on Admissions. A description of our teaching package along with a profile of our director of creative writing pedagogy is on the A.I. Teaching Support page. A list of support services and programs for students from under-represented populations can be found on Diversity Resources. Information about our student-edited literary journal, Indiana Review, and our summer writers' conference is included in Additional Opportunities. Other links offer a general history of our program, course lists, profiles of our faculty and students, details about fellowships and awards, program and alumni news, a list of published and forthcoming books by our graduates, and a calendar of annual readings on the Bloomington campus. Finally, a linked site index is offered to help readers better navigate these pages.
