Training & Education

The National Center on Accessibility is committed to providing educational courses facilitating the inclusion of people with disabilities in recreation, parks, and tourism. NCA offers several educational opportunities throughout the year including open registration courses, distance learning programs and training programs specifically tailored for agencies. More >>

Research
NCA conducts and facilitates research on issues critical to access in recreation environments. NCA has partnered with researchers from the universities of Minnesota, Georgia and Tennessee to discover the needs and preferences of people with disabilities. NCA Research in the areas of trails, beaches, swimming pools, playgrounds, golf, and visitor expectations has shaped the development of policy and accessibility standards nationally. More >>

Technical Assistance
NCA provides technical assistance over the phone, fax and e-mail free of charge to park and recreation professionals, consumers, advocates, designers, architects, planners, students, etc, anyone with a question on access to recreation. NCA Technical Assistance staff has the expertise to answer your program and design questions and to recommend additional resources to provide you with insights and solutions for successfully including people with disabilities in all areas of recreation. Consultation
NCA is available to provide consultation to your agency with the goal of improving access for visitors and participants with disabilities. Various levels of consultation are available based on your agency needs and desired outcomes:

  • On-site Consultation and Facility Walk-Thru
  • Physical or Program Accessibility Assessment
  • Full Assessment
