This multi-phase, multi-year collaborative project seeks to improve community leaders' abilities to develop effective and collaborative solutions to community needs and inform public policy decisions through:

  • Review of the scope, structure and economic impact of the sector statewide and in a cross-section of local communities;
  • Detailed assessment of how nonprofits are affected by the rapid changes in public policy and local economic and social conditions;
  • Study of the relationships between organizations--with particular emphasis on relationships between religious and secular organizations and between nonprofit organizations and government and philanthropic funders; and
  • Development of curricula material to be used for professional training and academic study of nonprofit management and policy issues.

The project examines the nonprofit sector at the statewide level and in twelve communities around the state of Indiana.
