Indiana Nonprofit Database Analysis The development of a comprehensive database of Indiana nonprofits began in 1999 with the most recent update completed in 2004. It includes (1) all IRS registered charities and other exempt entities with Indiana reporting addresses, (2) all religious congregations listed in the yellow pages and (3) all not-for-profit corporations registered with the Indiana Secretary of State (SOS). The database includes also (4) nonprofits identified by local field associates from a wide variety of local listings in eleven selected communities across the state as well as (5) those identified by a telephone survey of Indiana residents about their personal involvement with nonprofit organizations as employees, congregants, volunteers, or participants in meetings or events.
