Scott Evenbeck, shown here with Dean Min of Yonsei University, in Seoul, Korea, gave the keynote address at the first national conference on the first-year experience in Korea last semester. Evenbeck reported both on the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ Greater Expectations project, for which IUPUI was a founding member, and the Foundations of Excellence Project at the Policy Center on the First Year of College, where IUPUI is one of 12 campuses nationally defining characteristics of excellence, finding sources and forms of evidence, and laying the foundation for which the entire first-year undergraduate experience will rest. More than 200 representatives of nearly all colleges and universities in Korea participated in the conference, designed to strengthen work with entering students.
