Lilly Medical Library, POLIS Center developing tool to aid in providing health information to consumers

The Ruth Lilly Medical Library and the POLIS Center at IUPUI are developing a new Outreach Mapping Center as an aid to ensuring the effective distribution of outreach services by the National Library of Medicine (NML), the world’s largest medical library, and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM).

The NML collects materials in all areas of biomedicine and health care, as well as works on biomedical aspects of technology, the humanities, and the physical, life and social sciences. Because the NLM and many NNLM members have information services aimed at the general public, there is a need to identify and track targeted outreach efforts on behalf of consumers and health professionals.

The new center will help the library and its network track provision of a variety of outreach efforts and will aid in the identification of targeted populations for specific health risks.
