MIS alumni find they have a competitive advantage in the shifting job market

SLIS

Master of Information Science

Become an information architect

SLIS has been offering graduate degrees for over fifty years in library and information science. The Master of Information Science (MIS) degree program was established in 1995 as a response to the exploding global need for information technology professionals who know how to work with information.

Our MIS program has an enviable track record with over 160 graduates currently employed in a wide range of challenging IT careers. MIS alumni often obtain positions because they’ve learned the technology AND transferable skills such as communications, team building, and problem-solving that can open up their employment options.

Alumni report that positions and responsibilities in leading-edge areas are fluid, evolving and dynamic. These jobs require a level of flexibility and willingness to adapt to rapid change, which is easy for MIS graduates. At SLIS, we train the kind of well-rounded individuals who know how to analyze information, organize it, categorize it, structure it, manipulate it, and display it so others can use it--easily and intuitively. Masters of Information Science students are prepared for lifelong careers in designing, managing, evaluating, or consulting about information technologies and services.

As developers of information products, our students and alumni are the new architects of the information age.
