It was almost like theater in the round when the keynote speaker for IU Bloomington’s Black History Month began to speak. Feminist theorist and cultural critic bell hooks played to a standing-room-only audience at Whittenberger Auditorium Feb. 5, inviting those who were standing in the aisles to come and join her on the stage. After a one-year hiatus, the IUB Division of Recreational Sports put on its 24-hour fund-raiser for Indiana Special Olympics last weekend. Among participants were IU freshmen Paul Bozgo (left) assisting Brian Rosenzweig, who in this case was serving as a human bowling ball, in one of 50 recreational sports activities that raised $15,000. Since its inception in 1976, SOS has raised more than a half million dollars for Special Olympians in the state.

State Rep. Bill Cochran of New Albany is pictured with IU President Myles Brand at a meeting in Indianapolis Feb. 14 to raise awareness of how higher education affects the state of Indiana. Nearly 400 people, including 250 alumni and friends affiliated with IU’s Hoosiers for Higher Education were on hand.

No, it’s not the set of ER we have pictured
here. Rather, it’s a photograph on the set of IU’s newest television
commercial, which was filmed in Bloomington last month. Assistant
director John Dombro watches the monitor while director of photography
Dave Kessler films a scene at the IUB School of Nursing building.
The TV spot, which focuses on faculty excellence at IU, is now being
aired. Read about it (and view it on line) in today’s Home Pages.
