Speaking of hearts

The American Heart Association (AHA) honored two IU Bloomington employees Feb. 6 at the second annual American Heartsaver Day in Indianapolis.

Paul Spicer, assistant manager of loss prevention operations, and Shannon Ramey, an officer with the IU Police Department, were honored along with other AHA “heroes” who have used either cardiopulmonary resuscitation or a defibrillator to save someone’s life.

The two responded to a call Sept. 11 at Wright Education Building, where they found IU junior Shana Anglin in sudden cardiac arrest. The two began performing CPR, had re-established a heartbeat, and Anglin was hooked up to a defibrillator by the time ambulance crews arrived. She has recovered from the incident and has returned to classes.
